Trends aren’t to be followed, they’re simply a guide you can pick and choose what appeals to you. Not every style will suit you and that’s ok because there’s an equally amazing trend that you will love, master and rock this season. Can you guess the trends that caught my eye for spring summer ’18? Three words – Colour. Prints. Detailing. The classic black and white combo although sophisticated needs a pop of colour to spice things up. If that’s not your style, or you’re unsure how to incorporate colour, accessories are your best friend. Make an outfit interesting with extravagant ear candy, a belt bag that every influencer seems to own or a pair of 90s style sunglasses.
Bright Happy Yellow
Millennial pink is still hanging around but bright yellow hues are stealing the spotlight this season. The all-important question, how do you wear it? Depending on complexion the answer varies, those with darker complexions will suit most shades effortlessly. The trickiest trend to style? I think not. The entry level of styling colour will always be accessories, fancy a yellow bag? Pointed cat heels? Or a bucket hat? Take your pick and own the look. Three ways you can be on trend, play it safe with neutralising tones, styling with camel shades. If you’re a bold fashionista, a head-to-toe yellow ensemble may catch your interest. If you caught Beyoncé at Coachella this weekend, take inspiration by mixing textures, a yellow silk hoodie with denim paired with off-white trainers, far from basic yet great for a laid-back style.
Pretty Powerful Pastels
A spring without pastels, that’s madness. Refresh your pastels through styling, Celiné offered inspiration with a sharply tailored pink blazer paired with an asymmetric pleated cream skirt. The combo had the right amount of structure and fun, displaying power fused with play. Ideal for office environments, after-work drinks or an event at the weekend, wherever you decide to wear the power combo, all eyes will be on you, so work it girl.
Edgy Playful Fringe
Maximalist mood, feeling extra or want an added pizazz to your outfit? Statement fringing can help, swinging from necklines, hemlines, bags and anywhere it’s possible. No longer associated with boho vibes, styles have been refreshed with bold colours, sparkles and chicness. Pair a bright fringed bandeau with dark ripped denim and trainers for a festival inspired look, just add a cap as British weather can be unpredictable.
Palm Beach Socialite
Take a trip to the tropics without leaving your bedroom, imagine rainbow-hued palm prints, retro colour swirling and bright florals. Make an impact in a two-piece or keep it simple by toning down the palm beach vibes by adding block colour which separates the pieces. Accessories should be kept to a minimum as the prints do the talking, but you may want to take the Gucci approach by piling on necklaces and wearing glittery gloves with their Hawaiian two-piece.
Fresh Take Bumbags
Modernised, glittered and slung around the torso. Add edge to an outfit by wearing a bumbag, in various styles, colours and prints, which one will catch your eye? If bumbags aren’t your style, then opt for a refined belt bag instead. It gives structure to an outfit, belted over a blazer, coat or dress highlighting the figure in all the right places.
