Velvet for Spring? I think so. Victoria Beckham made it possible, she had the vision to wear velvet after December 31st, in a modern and nonchalant way. Welcome the creation of lightweight, loose-fitting, spring coloured clothing. The statement turquoise dress that stormed the SS17 catwalk in September left the audience in surprise. It’s refreshing to see velvet in brighter colours rather than the typical black, cranberry or eggplant tones. Her collections impress every season, making bold decisions and succeeding almost effortlessly. Her AW17 collection was full of elegance and individuality, letting the woman wearing the clothing feel powerful and fearless as she goes about her daily life.

Taking inspiration from Victoria Beckham’s SS17 line, I was browsing the Pretty Little Things website and saw a pair of pink velvet trousers calling my name. I haven’t owned a pair of bright coloured pants before, yet that didn’t cross my mind at the time. My thought process went something similar to this looks pretty, ideal colour for spring, and why not inject a bit of colour into my wardrobe. I reiterate this time and time again, but it’s a must, be unapologetically yourself, exude confidence in all your choices. I love the positive messages that Beyoncé spreads through her music, flawless is my jam, both original and remix, it’s a feel-good tune. Next time you’re getting dressed, listen to your favourite song that makes you feel exceptionally beautiful, adopt that attitude for a day, and acknowledge the differences. Let me help you identify one difference, I bet you create a bolder outfit.

Getting back on track, on Wednesdays we wear pink (popular Mean Girl’s reference). Recently I’ve been wearing colours with ease, honestly, I have no idea what spurred this on, but I’m liking it. I’ve been obsessed with my pink velvet pants and decided to share a few style tips. A way to keep the style casual (yet chic), add a matching baseball cap and a pair of trainers (bonus points if they’re white). They’re practical, very stylish and almost every influencer has a white trainer. Another option is to switch the footwear to boots, add a handbag and a slogan tee or hoody to keep the laid-back, casual vibe. If you’re a unicorn and adore colour like I do, go for alternative shades of pink – preferably paler tones, but do whatever works for you. I added a lace detailed white blouse to neutralise the outfit, and not look like pepper pig.
