5 Happy Things | Gratitude

Why Happiness?

Well, with the circulation of various mental health issues and the rise of depression and anxiety in our generation, I wanted to add a sparkle of happiness through my little space on the internet. Introducing you all to a new happiness series on the blog called 5 Happy Things, there will be a different theme each time, today I present gratitude. Researchers from the University of California have discovered that being thankful correlates to a higher level of joy. It generates an optimistic outlook on life and lowers stress levels, I think it's time to put our gratitude hats on with those benefits.

What're the 5 Happy Things you're grateful for? 

1. Life 
Simple yet important, whether new or old, we all have a purpose on Earth. Let's not forget our very existence is a miracle - let's handle it with care. 

2. Love 
Just the mere feeling of love is exceptional, the love of God, good music or literature. Not to mention when love is reciprocated, we're all surrounded by family, friendships and a significant other who care for us dearly, never take such relationships for granted. 

3. Food 
One thing that makes me happy is food, discovering new dishes, experiencing a fusion of spices or merely trying a classic with a twist. Many people in the world don't have access to food, remind yourself not to waste food that someone else could potentially be eating. Finish it, otherwise, don't buy it. Do you really need that Starbucks, Pret or Costa?

4. Shelter
No matter the size of your accommodation, you're safe from bad weather, have a bed to sleep on and ultimately a safe haven. Many have to endure the cruel happenings of street life, next time you find yourself complaining about your situation, ask yourself is it a first world struggle or a third world problem? 

5. Water
The daily thirst quencher that we all need to be drinking more of, whether plain or infused with fruit and vegetables, it has various health benefits.

Life, love, food, water, and shelter are always things to be thankful for, but we can sometimes take those for granted even though we shouldn't!
